Patrick Wolf: Remember the ’80s

Patrick Wolf told NME.com recently that his new video, “Hard Times,” is a tribute to Elvis Presley and German performer Klaus Nomi. I see more Klaus (who I had to look up) than Elvis. But the song and video also conjure images of those ’80s bands that morphed new wave and disco (think ABC, Soft Cell, Duran Duran, Psychedelic Furs, etc.).

“Hard Times” is the second video off Wolf’s new album, “The Bachelor” (released this week) and it’s considerably tamer than the first, “Vulture.” I find parts of Wolf’s album to be a bit overwrought but I do like “Hard Times.”  Overall, it’s generally good music, especially if you long for the ’80s.
