New music: Dan Deacon releases ‘America’
On the first full day of the Republican National Convention, Dan Deacon releases his new album, America. That’s not to say Deacon has gone all 3 Doors Down, jumping in bed with the GOP. Rather, he has a more conflicted relationship with the USA. “The inspiration for the music was my love of cross-country travel, seeing the landscapes of the United States, going from east to west and back again over the course of seasons. The lyrics are inspired by my frustration, fear and anger towards the country and world I live in,” he says on his website.
On the other hand, America isn’t really a political album despite Deacon’s support for the Occupy movement. What the release provides is some classic, quirky Dan Deacon moments with a little bit of the party taken out. Musically, it’s multi-layered with plenty of electronic effects to keep Deacon fans content. It’s definitely recommended.
