The Pitchfork Music Festival kicks off this afternoon (Friday) at Union Park with the first band, Chicago’s Outer Minds, at 3:20 p.m. Click on links below for my day-by-day previews.
Most of the after-parties are listed here. Though the list isn’t complete. It doesn’t include Iceage at Subterranean Monday, for instance. There’s also the three-night Cobrafest at nearby Cobra Lounge.
Pitchfork’s festival in July is a little more interesting with some additions announced today. Sunday’s lineup definitely needed more edge with the preppy boys of Vampire Weekend closing the fest. The Men and Iceage were just announced for Sunday, a move that adds about 1,000% more rock to the day’s shows.
Likewise, Sleigh Bells will shake things up Saturday night. If that’s not your cup of tea, Flying Lotus also was added to Saturday’s lineup. Three other additions for Saturday include Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q and the Atlas Moth.
Friday night’s offering is much fuller with the addition of Dirty Projectors, the Olivia Tremor Control, Clams Casino and Purity Ring.
