Mark Cuban buys Big Star movie
Nothing Can Hurt Me, a documentary about legendary early ’70s band Big Star, got some positive reviews last year after limited screenings. Now the movie has backing from billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Magnolia Pictures, which is owned by Cuban and partner Todd Wagner, acquired the North American rights to the movie and plans to release it in theaters this year. In addition to being a distributor, Magnolia owns the Landmark Theatres chain. The movie tells the story of Big Star’s commercial failure despite the band’s later influence on generations of musicians. I still consider Big Star’s releases, No. 1 Record and Radio City, to be two of the best albums ever made. Needless to say, I’m excited to see the film. Watch a trailer below.
